Gear Types

RACK & PINION

The pinion is a basic spur or helical gear meshed with a rack of the same pitch pressure angle and helix.  They are used extensively to convert rotary motion to linear motion.

CUSTOM GEARBOXES

Custom gearboxes manufactured to suit your application, environment and space.  All sizes from small right angle boxes to large multi-stage industrial units.

PLANETARY SETS

Epicyclic gearboxes for those compact high reduction, high load applications.

WORM GEARING

The most common type of worm gearing has a hardened worm shaft meshing with a bronze gear and shafts aligned to run at right angles to one another.  They are used extensively for reductions up to 150:1.  With the use of multistart worm shafts reduction of 3:1 can be achieved.

HELICALS

Helical gears have a similar blank form to spur gears, but the teeth are cut at an angle to the shaft axis.  They are often used for precision enclosed gear units where the spiral angle of the gears enables smoother and quieter running.

BEVELS

Bevels gears can be generally viewed as truncated cones, with the apices of the pitch cones lying at the same point.  However, this is not essential, as their axes may be offset to each other as with hypoid gears.
